Who is EPAGMA ?

The European Peat and Growing Media Association represents peat and growing media companies in Europe and acts as the interlocutor of the industry at EU level.

EPAGMA is committed to high environmental practices in peat extraction, responsible use of peat as a local energy source and promotion of the unique properties of peat as a growing media constituent in horticultural plant production.

On 27 March, EPAGMA will host the Growing Media Forum 2012 at the Renaissance Hotel in Brussels which will gather stakeholders from the peat, growing media and horticulture sectors.

September 2011

Dr. Norbert Siebels Chairman of EPAGMA has been invited to give a key note speech on the challenges and prospects for the peat and growing media industry at the International Peat Congress 2012.

EPAGMA has appointed Dr Norbert Siebels, Managing Director of Klasmann-Deilmann Group, as the new Chairman of EPAGMA.

EPAGMA also appointed Tomi Yli-Kyyny, the new Managing Director of VAPO Oy as the Vice Chairman of EPAGMA. More

The story of Peat

Peat is found in nature made up of plants which grow in mires.

In mires plants decompose slowly due to waterlogging and lack of oxygen. A mire is an active peat-forming area. So-called peatlands can be mires or areas that have been developed for agriculture, foresty or industry. A peatland always has a naturally accumulated layer of peat, independently of how it is used.
